If you are a music fan you might have heard of the legendary The 100 Club in London. Converse joined forces with this club in 2011, when it was threatened with closure due to rent increases and local taxes. It’s future now secured, it continues to host some of the most inspiring acts on the music scene, from big names to obscure up-and-comings. Check out this video of a performance by Mazes at the club last year…
The reason I’m telling you all this is because Converse is on the hunt for the best unsigned music talent in SA to be the next big act playing at The 100 Club. Converse is encouraging all up-and-coming bands/artists to get out of the garage and showcase their talent by uploading their most original song to the Facebook app > http://on.fb.me/getoutofthegarage. The judges (Zulu Boy, John Savage and Garick Williams) will then narrow down the entries to SA’s top 10 unsigned artists. The finalists will then be announced on the www.facebook.com/converse page , and then South Africa can vote for their favourites and even stand the chance of joining them, VIP style, to London.
This is such a great opportunity to get local talent inspired, and with such a diverse country, talent is something we are not short of! The beauty about this competition is that it is not genre specific, whether you are a punk rocker, electro fundi, kickass proponent of kwaito, or a hip hop playa, Converse wants to hear your sound! The video below is an idea of what the winning band can expect, just a few clips from the winners of “Get out of the garage USA.”
Be sure to follow the conversation on Twitter @Converse_Africa and with the #Play100Club hashtag. Entries close 8th of July and winners will be announced on August 6th 2012.
