You may remember us talking about #Play100Club: Converse’s quest to discover unsigned SA talent – of any genre – that will then represent South Africa at the world famous 100 Club.
Over the last seventy years London’s iconic 100 Club has played host to a multitude of artists and genres, and on 22 June 2012 Converse started its quest to uncover South Africa’s finest unsigned talent on Facebook – encouraging bands to get out of the garage.
138 acts submitted their diverse offerings from punk rock to deep house, and one of them will earn the chance to perform at the legendary 100 Club, the longest running popular music venue in the world. The top 10 bands hail from Cape Town, Johannesburg and Pretoria.
Judges Zulu Boy, Jon Savage and Garick Williams have narrowed these hopefuls down to a shortlist of 10 and starting from today until 2 August, you will be able to vote for your favourite artist here > http://on.fb.me/getoutofthegarage
The finalists are: Goodnight Wembley (CT, Rock), IScream and the Chocolate Stix (CT, Rock), Matthew Mole (CT, Folk & Electric), Nakhane Toure (JHB, Folk & Rock), North of Winter (PTA, Rock), Savage Lucy (JHB, Metal, Rock & Blues), Shotgun Tori (JHB, Indie & Folk), Skin2Soul (JHB, Afro, Kwaito & Regaae), Swart (JHB, Afrikaans Rock) and The Kiffness (CT, Electronic).
The Kiffness has already resorted to shaving tactics to garner support. I’m interested in seeing what the other bands get up to.
Vote for your favourite and you too have the chance to join them with full VIP treatment for the gig, and take a friend! Follow the conversation on Twitter @Converse_Africa and with the #Play100Club hashtag.
Winners will be announced on 6 August, 2012.
Vote. Win. Get out of the Garage
